2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 Non-Billable/Non-Specific Code
Includes- silicotic fibrosis (massive) of lung
Type 1 Excludes- pneumoconiosis with tuberculosis, any type in A15 (J65)
Pneumoconiosis due to dust containing silica
Approximate Synonyms
- Pneumoconiosis due to silica
- Silicosis
Clinical Information
- A form of pneumoconiosis resulting from inhalation of dust containing crystalline form of silicon dioxide, usually in the form of quartz. Amorphous silica is relatively nontoxic.
- An occupational lung disorder caused by the inhalation of silica dust. It results in the inflammation and scarring of the upper lobes of the lungs. It may be an acute or chronic disorder. In the acute form, patients develop shortness of breath, fever, and cyanosis. In the chronic form patients, develop progressive shortness of breath.
ICD-10-CM J62.8 is grouped within Diagnostic Related Group(s) (MS-DRG v40.0):
- 196 Interstitial lung disease with mcc
- 197 Interstitial lung disease with cc
- 198 Interstitial lung disease without cc/mcc
