A type 1 excludes note is a pure excludes. It means "not coded here". A type 1 excludes note indicates that the code excluded should never be used at the same time as R81. A type 1 excludes note is for used for when two conditions cannot occur together, such as a congenital form versus an acquired form of the same condition.
- Presence of glucose in the urine, especially the excretion of an abnormally large amount of sugar (glucose) in the urine.
- The appearance of an abnormally large amount of glucose in the urine, such as more than 500 mg/day in adults. It can be due to hyperglycemia or genetic defects in renal reabsorption (renal glycosuria).
